Hwado (2024)

Hwado is a Korean term that merges "hwa" (painting) and "do" (path or way). It symbolises the journey of artistic creation—a voyage through the landscapes of the mind and the material world.

The Hwado series reimagines traditional landscape painting by exploring the interactions between materiality, space, and time. Sparked by a profound curiosity about the concept of 'landscape,' this series reflects a personal journey to capture the essence of the intangible. Using natural materials like Hanji (traditional Korean paper) and sand, the work involves layering, staining, and scratching to evoke depth and texture. Each piece reveals the dynamic evolution of colours and materials, inviting deep contemplation on the nature of art and existence.
